Blue and Peach Floral Dress

Timeline: late July 2015

Posts: read about how I made this dress and my focus on topstitching here

Patterns Used: The bodice is from Butterick 5748 with very few alterations, though I created my own facings (opting out of the lining) and used my own self-drafted circle skirt pattern

Fabrics: the Navy/White/Orange Floral Cotton Sateen Print from Mood Fabrics

My Favorite Part: It would have to be the back of the dress. I love the low neckline and how it gives the dress a flirty but appropriate air. I’m also totally in love with the fabric — it’s cute, light, and flowy: everything a summer dress in Southern California needs to be

Techniques and firsts: This was my first time making my own facings for a dress. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely do it again. When a fabric is so light and soft on its own, it just seems like a total waste to line it, so facings are the perfect option.
